Action Alert:
Tell BlackRock to Stop Investing in AR-15 Dealers

On April 17, 2018, Parkland shooting survivor and March for Our Lives leader David Hogg tweeted information about the nation’s biggest institutional investors in gun manufacturers. Topping the list was BlackRock, an American global investment management corporation.

It’s time for BlackRock to live up to its own words when it comes to assault weapons.

BlackRock is the largest institutional shareholder of gun maker Sturm Ruger & Co. and the second-largest shareholder of Vista Outdoor Inc. and Smith & Wesson parent American Outdoor Brands Corp.

None of these gunmakers have taken any steps to control their chain of distribution to ensure that high-powered weapons do not fall into the hands of violent individuals. It’s time for Black Rock to follow the lead of Bank of America, Citigroup, and other financial giants and stop doing business with gun companies that do not employ simple safeguards to protect the safety of the public.

Please contact BlackRock through one of the channels below and give them the following message (personalized to your liking):

I was disturbed to learn that BlackRock is the nation’s largest investor in gun manufacturers and yet you have taken no steps to ensure these companies are operating in a responsible manner. It’s time for BlackRock to follow the lead of other financial giants and change the way you do business with gunmakers. You can save lives by asking the gun companies you invest in to take simple steps to protect the safety of the public. For a start, you should stop investing in gun manufacturers that make assault weapons like the AR-15 and high-capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. These are implements of mass killers. Gunmakers should also demonstrate their distribution networks are not selling rifles and shotguns to individuals under the age of 21. Your CEO Larry Fink has talked about how important it is to BlackRock to make a positive contribution to society. Now it’s time for you to practice what you preach and prevent unnecessary suffering from gun violence.
