Action Alert:
Share Candidate Grades that NRA Wants to Hide

On June 12, 2018, the Washington Post reported that the NRA had inexplicably pulled past letter-grades for political candidates from its Political Victory Fund website. Currently, the pull-down menu at the site only allows viewers to see grades for the current election cycle.

If the group’s recent actions are any measure, no one wants to be the NRA heading into the 2018 midterm elections.

When confronted about this change, NRA spokesperson Jennifer Baker lied and claimed, “Nothing has changed with our archives,” adding that the lack of available data was “an IT glitch.” Another NRA employee who was contacted, however,  indicated he was aware of the change and stated it was because the organization’s “enemies were using that” information.

In response, Everytown for Gun Safety compiled a database of more than 60,000 past NRA lawmaker grades dating back to 2009. The Washington Post then took these grades and made an interactive database that can be searched by a lawmaker’s first name, last name, or state.

“The NRA wanted to hide this information from the public,” Everytown told the Post. “[We think] it is important that voters see it.” The reason the NRA wants its grades hidden is because the organization has become politically toxic since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas H.S. in February. Republican candidates likely requested that their past grades be hidden.

It is incumbent on us now to share these grades so every American has the opportunity to vote for political candidates that have receveived an ‘F’ grade from the NRA (and remove from office those who haven’t).

Please share the following message and hyperlink on your Facebook feed so your family and friends can see it:

The NRA has become politically toxic since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas H.S. and is now hiding all its past grades for political candidates in order to deny voters that information heading into the 2018 midterms. Thankfully, Everytown for Gun Safety and the Washington Post have collaborated to compile the NRA’s past candidate grades (dating back to 2009) and make them available in a searchable database that you can find at the hyperlink below (scroll down at the link to “Find an NRA Grade”). Please see how your candidates have been graded by the NRA and then share this link with others! We will never have safe communities in this country until we rid ourselves of pro-gun politicans who value NRA largesse over human lives.
