Action Alert:
Call for Charges Against Man who Killed Unarmed Neighbor

On November 12, 2017, Curtis Shelley was walking home from work in Killeen, Texas when he encountered neighbor Austin Fasulo on the street. The two men began to argue over Shelley’s dog. Fasulo allegedly stabbed the  animal weeks earlier when it bit his fiancee.

During the argument, Fasulo retrieved a loaded long gun from his truck (parked on the street) and pointed it at the unarmed Shelley, who had his hands up for much of the encounter. Witness video captured what unfolded next as Fasulo shot Shelley, 27, at close range, bringing him to the ground. Shelley died in a hospital shortly thereafter.

The incident was investigated by the Texas Rangers and brought to a grand jury in Bell County, which failed to recommend charges. Shelley’s family claims this is because Austin Fasulo’s mother is a Killen police officer.

I was outraged to learn you have not charged Austin Fasulo in the shooting death of 27 year-old Curtis Shelley on November 12, 2017.  Fasulo gunned an unarmed Shelley down on the street in broad daylight. And over what? A dog that he might have stabbed at some point!  How cheap is life these days in Bell County?  I would not tolerate this in any community in America, much less mine. I don’t care about the NRA’s noxious “Stand Your Ground” law and I don’t care about the recommendation of the recently impaneled grand jury. I want you to bring charges (murder or manslaughter) against Fasulo for killing Curtis Shelley. You need to do your job and seek justice in this case even if the killer is the son of a Killeen police officer and even if it’s a tough legal road to hoe. You know this shooting was totally unnecessary and the act of an absolute coward. Bring Austin Fasulo to justice. I will be watching your actions closely.
