Action Alert:
Call For Charges Against Parent(s) Who Enabled Death of 9 y/o

Around 6:30 p.m. on May 25, 2019, an 11 year-old boy and his 9 year-old brother were playing with a gun at their home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The gun accidentally discharged as the older brother was holding it and the round hit the 9 year-old, killing him on the spot.

Local news coverage of the shooting did not question the arrest.

The police made it clear the shooting was unintentional, but charged the 11 year-old with negligent homicide. According to East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore, “by law the 11-year-old could be held in the juvenile detention center until he’s 18 years old” if convicted.

I am furious that you arrested and charged the 11 year-old boy who accidentally shot his 9 year-old brother with an unsecured gun in the home on May 25, 2019. How dare you further traumatize this boy after he suffered the loss of his brother in front of his eyes? IT IS NOT THE FAULT OF AN 11 YEAR-OLD CHILD THAT THIS TRAGEDY HAPPENED. It is the fault of the negligent gun-owning adult who made that firearm and ammunition available to minor children. Drop the negligent homicide charge against this 11 year-old boy IMMEDIATELY and charge the adult owner of the firearm! I will be watching your actions very closely and I vote! I will not stand still while you torture a boy who needs immediate counseling and love because of the gross negligence of a guardian.
