22 June 2019 – Gun silencers like the one used in the recent Virginia Beach shooting would be banned under legislation that U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey introduced Friday.
He appeared with Democratic Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora and representatives from the gun-control group Moms Demand Action.
“I’m not saying that any single piece of legislation can stop every single tragedy, but there’s no question that gun safety laws can save lives,” Menendez said.
Unsurprisingly, the NRA are fighting this proposed change to law – even though being able to hear gunshots could give people in the area of a shooting an audible warning that a shooting event is taking place.
1 Write to Senator Menendez through one of the channels listed below and give him the following message, personalized to your liking:
I was delighted to see your proposal to ban gun silencers launched, and thank you for taking this step. I agree with you that this move will help save lives. Thank you for taking a stand which may help save lives.
2 Contact your senators and ask them to support Bob Menendez
Senator Bob Menendez has proposed legislation that will ban silencers, and I expect you to support it. There is no reason why a person acting in a legal manner would need a silencer, but as we have seen in several shootings such as Virginia Beach, silencers are used. The audible clue that a shooting event is taking place may be the only chance some people will get to hide or escape.
