Action Alert:
Send Postcard to America for Feinstein Assault Weapons Ban Bill

Update:  S. 66 has 29 co-sponsors, but has yet to be referred to committee.

Postcards for America has posted an alert for S. 66, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 introduced by the Democratic Senator from California, Dianne Feinstein.

Senator Feinstein is the leader of Democratic opposition to assault weapons like the AR-15 rifle.

S. 66 is an improved version of Feinstein’s original 1994 assault weapons ban legislation. It would to ban the sale, transfer, manufacture and importation of military-style firearms, bump stocks and other accessories that enable full-automatic fire, and high-capacity ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds. The bill defines an assault weapon as any firearm “that accepts a detachable ammunition magazine and has one or more military characteristics including a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock.”

The bill exempts by name more than 2,200 guns for hunting, household defense or recreational purposes. Current owners of assault weapons would be allowed to keep them, but they would be required to secure these firearms with a trigger lock or similar device. They would also have to conduct a background check on any buyer purchasing an assault weapon from them.
