Action Alert:
Support Florida Representative Who Proudly Signed AWB Petition

On January 19, 2019, new Florida state representative Anna Eskamani (D-47th-Orange County) posted a photo of herself signing an Assault Weapons Ban petition to her Facebook page.  The petition was gathering signatures for the “Florida Ban on Military-Style Firearms and Disqualifications for Firearm Possession Initiative,” a referendum that gun violence prevention activists are hoping to place on the state ballot for the 2020 election. Activists need to obtain 766,200 signatures by January 1, 2020 to qualify.

After the mass shooting at The Pulse nightclub in their community, twins Ida and Anna Eskamani raised more than $7.5 million for the victims through a GoFundMe page.

If approved by voters in 2020, the Florida Ban on Military-Style Firearms would amend Florida’s constitution to prevent any resident or person entering the state from possessing sniper rifles or long guns that can hold more than seven rounds and be converted to fully-automatic mode.

The measure would also prohibit a Florida resident from possessing firearms if he/she had: (a) been convicted of a felony; (b) been convicted of three or more misdemeanors; (c) his or her driver’s license revoked for driving under the influence, reckless driving, or excessive speeding; (d) been subject to two or more domestic abuse emergency calls or investigations; (e) been diagnosed by a medical professional as psychologically disturbed; or (f) made any substantiated threat of violence against another person.

After posting her Facebook photo, Rep. Eskamani, the daughter of Iranian immigrants, was harassed by an organized group of gun fetishists. “I am reminded that for generations women who are bold and unapologetic are always facing backlash,” said Eskamani in response. “I always say that for every act of intimidation, our courage only rises.”

Rep. Eskamani is brave and tough, but she can use our support. Please contact her through one or more of the channels below and send the following message, personalized to your liking:

Rep. Eskamani, thank you so much for being a champion of gun control. I also greatly appreciate the fundraising effort you and your sister undertook for the victims of the shooting at The Pulse nightclub. I am deeply sorry you were harassed by gun fetishists following your 1/19/19 Facebook post about signing the petition for a ballot referendum on banning assault weapons.  But once again, you did exactly the right thing for our communities and families. Not only would the proposed ballot referendum get military-style weapons off the streets, it would also block many categories of violent people who are currently allowed to purchase firearms under Florida’s weak gun laws. Keep your head up and keep moving forward to save lives! Every single time gun-humping degenerates come after you, I will be there to defend you, lift you up, and help you move forward with your agenda. You are EXACTLY the type of leader we need in Tallahassee and greatly appreciated.
