Action Alert:
Support Lesbian Latina Legislator Targeted by Pro-Gunners in Recall

In the 2018 midterm elections, 28 year-old Democrat Rochelle Galindo won the race for state representative in Colorado House District 50, representing Weld County. This continued the meteoric political rise of Galindo, who is lesbian and Latina. She works as a custodian at an elementary school, has experience managing political campaigns, and won a seat on the Greeley City Council when she was just 25.

Republicans haven’t won the HD50 seat since 2002 and were angered by Galindo’s victory. They were also infuriated to see her vote against the oil-gas industry and for Colorado’s new Emergency Risk Protection Order (ERPO) law in the House.

Colorado Senate Minority Leader Patrick Neville and his brother Joe, who runs the PAC Values First Colorado, announced a recall effort targeting Galindo in March 2019. Joe worked for years as the political director of the extreme pro-gun group Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, which is supporting Galindo’s recall. Patrick is an ardent advocate of allowing concealed carriers to bring their firearms into K-12 schools.

Please take one or more of the following actions to support Rep. Rochelle Galindo in the recall campaign targeting her:

1) Contact Colorado Democratic Party executive director Pilar Chapa through one of the channels below and give her the following message, personalized to your liking:

I am absolutely disgusted to see gun-fetishizing men like Patrick and Joe Neville leading a recall effort against Rep. Rochelle Galindo after her vote for the Emergency Risk Protection Order (ERPO) and other sensible policies. Despite her young age, Rep. Galindo has been providing public service to her community for years. She is a leader who focuses on the needs of people, not corporations and lobbies. Now that ERPO is law, I trust her to make sure the policy is properly implemented and protecting the families in House District 50 from unnecessary gun violence. I want to see the Colorado Democratic Party DEDICATING RESOURCES AND GROUND SUPPORT to defeat the recall of Rep. Galindo. Help her canvass her district and talk to residents about why it will be so important to vote in the recall election. She already has a strong legislative record to talk about. Commit resources and help her get the message out. We need her in Denver making good public policy!

2) Leave the following message of support on Rochelle’s Facebook page, personalized to your liking:

Rep. Galindo, thank you for voting for Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) legislation and your overall commitment to public service. The ERPO law will allow families and law enforcement to disarm violent individuals in crisis statewide. Many lives will be saved as a result. I am so disgusted to see gun-fetishizing men like Patrick and Joe Neville now targeting you with a recall campaign. Please know I am engaged in supporting your effort to defeat the recall! We need to keep you in Denver so you can continue to elevate good policy that makes Colorado communities safer and happier.

3) If you are capable of doing so, please make a contribution to Rep. Galindo’s campaign to win the recall:
