A white supremacist gunman in his 20s killed 49 people in shootings during Friday prayers at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15, 2019. NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has described the shootings, which were streamed online by the killer, as “an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence” and “terrorism.”
The shooter was a white supremacist inspired by mass shooters in the United States and the NRA’s radicalism on the Second Amendment. According to the New York Times, he “declared himself a fascist” and “purposely used guns to stir discord in the United States over the Second Amendment’s provision on the right to bear arms.”
Please support the victims and survivors of the mass shooting in New Zealand by taking one or more of the following actions:
1) Condemn Australian Sen. Fraser Anning, who blamed the mass shooting on “the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place,” by sending him the following message through one of the channels below:
How dare you blame a mass shooting committed by an avowed fascist and white supremacist on the people he targeted and killed? Anyone with even a basic shred of decency would be thinking about the survivors of the attacks, and what they need in this moment. Yet you see it as an opportunity to further spread the hate that motivated the gunman’s attack in the first place. Your are repugnant and I hope the rule of law eventually holds you accountable for the violence you promote. We will overcome you by showing love and support to Muslims and people of color in our communities and abroad in the days ahead. Immigrants are the backbone of many great democracies, and will continue to be.
Australian Senator Fraser Anning
2) Sign the following Change.org petition calling for Fraser Anning to be removed from the Senate Privileges Committee in Australia:
3) If you have the means to do so, make a contribution to help the victims and survivors of the mass shooting through a crowdfund page set up by the New Zealand Islamic Information Centre:
