Action Alert:
Tell Indiana School to End Sadistic Active Shooter Drills

Update: The Indiana state legislature considered, but ultimately rejected, amendments to school safety legislation that would have prevented K-12 teachers from being shot with projectiles during future active shooter drills. Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond) was the lead defender of the violent training, saying, “It’s got to do with reality, and making sure they experience the emotions and the adrenaline and everything that happens during the training, but it’s not required.”

Horrifying reports have emerged from Meadowlawn Elementary School in Monticello, Indiana where teachers were shot with plastic pellets that caused welts, bruises and bleeding during active shooter training in January 2019. The training was conducted by the White County Sheriff’s Office.

An active shooter training session at Meadowlawn Elementary School in Indiana.

According to testimony by a representative of the teachers’ union before the state legislature in Indianapolis: “Four teachers at a time were taken into a room, told to crouch down and were shot execution-style [in their backs] with some sort of projectiles — resulting in injuries to the extent that welts appeared, and blood was drawn. The teachers were terrified, but were told not to tell anyone what happened. Teachers waiting outside that heard the screaming were brought into the room four at a time and the shooting process was repeated.”

One of the teachers who participated in the training reported, “They told us, ‘This is what happens if you just cower and do nothing.'”

I was absolutely disgusted to learn about the sadistic active shooter training being conducted at Meadowlawn Elementary School by the White County Sheriff’s Office. Let me be clear about something. There is NO legitimate purpose to lining teachers up against a wall and shooting them in the back with airsoft guns while telling them, “This is what happens if you just cower and do nothing.” What it sounds like is a crude and ugly attempt by sheriff’s deputies to punish these teachers for not embracing degenerate gun culture and its misbegotten tenets about “wolves, sheepdogs, and sheep.” It’s disgusting, misogynist and wrong and NO family in Monticello should abide by teachers being harmed and traumatized in this way. Additionally, I will NOT accept the normalization of school shootings; to do so is an absolute betrayal of children and faculty alike. I call on you to end ALL active shooter drills/training at the schools administered by the Twin Lakes School Corporation immediately. This training is an immoral abdication of your responsibility to get your butts to the state legislature in Indianapolis and advocate for laws that will PREVENT future shootings by disarming individuals with a history of violence. If you don’t have the decency and courage to do it, we will replace you democratically with someone who does.
