Action Alert:
Tell Valve/Steam to Pull Active Shooter Video Game

Update: On May 29, 2018, Valve announced it was removing the “Active Shooter” game from its store on Steam:

“We have removed the developer Revived Games and publisher ACID from Steam. This developer and publisher is, in fact, a person calling himself Ata Berdiyev, who had previously been removed last fall when he was operating as “[bc]Interactive” and “Elusive Team.” Ata is a troll, with a history of customer abuse, publishing copyrighted material, and user review manipulation. His subsequent return under new business names was a fact that came to light as we investigated the controversy around his upcoming title. We are not going to do business with people who act like this towards our customers or Valve. The broader conversation about Steam’s content policies is one that we’ll be addressing soon.”

Just days after the mass shooting at Santa Fe High School in which 10 students and faculty were killed, and 13 injured, the online video game store Steam is selling a first-person-shooter game titled “Active Shooter” which lets players “slaughter as many civilians as possible” in a school setting.

The game boasts a “variety of real life weapons,” “destruction physics” and “real life situations.” It was posted on Steam by an independent developer previously accused of selling “asset-flipped” games. Asset-flipping means taking third-party game engines and graphics and repackaging them for sale with minimal

The “Active Shooter” game will be available for download on June 6, 2018. Steam is owned by Valve Corporation, a video game developer and digital distribution company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington.

Please contact Valve CEO Gabe Newell through one of the channels below and give him the following message (personalized to your liking):

I am absolutely horrified to see that Steam is selling an “Active Shooter” game that is due to be released on June 6 for download. This first-person shooter allows players to roam schools and “slaughter as many civilians as possible.” In the midst of so many real-life school shootings in the United States, with countless students and teachers being killed and injured, the release of this game is inconscionable. I am demanding that you remove “Active Shooter” from the Steam website immediately and stop selling products that glorify the gun violence killing and traumatizing America’s children. If you do not, I will make it my life’s mission to organize an effective boycott of Valve that puts you out of business for good. That I promise you.
