Update: Ned Lamont defeated Republican Bob Stefanowksi in Connecticut’s governor’s race in the 2018 midterm elections on a platform that championed stronger gun laws. Thanks to everyone who took this action and reinforced Governor Lamont’s focus on gun control!
Democrat Ned Lamont is running for Governor in the state of Connecticut and promoting the most progressive policy agenda on gun control in recent memory.
Ned Lamont is serious about preventing “ghost guns” from being made in Connecticut. He supports Connecticut’s Assault Weapons Ban and wants to mandate registration of all grandfathered assault rifles (like the AR-15) and high-capacity ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds. Lamont also wants to ban the future manufacture of high-capacity magazines.
Conscious that the Sandy Hook tragedy was enabled by weak state laws that allowed Nancy Lanza to keep firearms and ammunition unsecured throughout the house she shared with her son, Ned Lamont wants to mandate safe storage practices with firearms in the home. He also wants to expand gun buyback programs in the state.
In Connecticut’s urban areas, Lamont will support intervention programs like Project Longevity that have saved lives. He is also calling for community response programs to help victims and survivors of gun violence to heal.
Ned’s race won’t be easy, however. Right now, outgoing Democratic Governor Daniel Malloy is the least popular governor in America after running up a huge deficit. The Republicans have an opening and they are running candidates who oppose sensible gun reforms and get top grades from the NRA.
