Have your say on Ghost Guns – Act before Midnight 19 August

URGENT – COMMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED BY midnight 19 August

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF)  has a  consultation expiring 19 August – on Ghost Guns – privately made firearms, often homemade/3d printed, which lack commercial serial numbers.  The enormity of the problem cannot be overstated.

We have the advantage of being allowed to have our say on the subject, and it is a right that if used may save lives.

I write as a member of One Pulse for America, and I want to see the ATF recognize the threat ghost guns present.  The law has to reflect the seriousness of untraceable ‘ghost guns’. Without legal safeguards, these weapons-  easily made from easy-to-get materials- can only increase in number and will cost lives. Some say a fully-functioning weapon can be made in under an hour – and such weapons are virtually untraceable.

Please take a hard stance against this dangerous development.

Support the states seeking ghost gun / 3d printer gun ban

Attorneys general in 20 states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit last Thursday 23 January challenging a federal regulation that could allow blueprints for making guns on 3D printers to be posted online.

CBS news reports New York Attorney General Tish James, who helped lead the coalition of state attorneys general, argued that posting the blueprints would allow anyone to go online and use the downloadable files to create unregistered and untraceable assault-style weapons that could be difficult to detect.

The lawsuit, joined by California, Washington and 17 other states, was filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle. It is likely to reignite a fierce debate over the use of 3D-printed firearms and is the latest in a series of attempts by state law enforcement officials to block the Trump administration from easing the accessibility of the blueprints.

A ghost gun – one that has no serial number and which can be made on a 3D printer out of plastics – thus avoiding metal detectors – was used in the recent Saugus High School shooting.  LAPD says ghost guns are increasingly involved in crimes.  In March of last year, a major police sting operation in New Jersey uncovered an organized crime ring creating and selling ghost guns, according to ABC News.
